Fancy a swing of golf?
One of the many things we adore about living in Tuscany is that there are so many exciting adventures to go on, if you’re into sports or wanting to try something new, continue reading.
A 25 minute drive away from La Torre in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan countryside can be found the 9,400 meter Golf club at Castelfalfi. Surrounded by green groves and flourishing olive trees, all designed by the amazing architects Moroder and Preißmann who at every one of the 27-hole layouts, have enhanced the stunning landscape that can be admired. The golf club has two main courses, The Lake Course and the Mountain Course, which were specially made to be used by not only professionals, yet also by passionate beginners, assures a gratifying experience for all. This golf club is suitable for everyone as the buildings and courses have been designed for optimum accessibility by all. We can’t wait to go this summer and start a new sport together!
The Lake Course
With a length of 3,171 meters of Tuscan land, lake and air, this course is shorter of the two but not any less challenging as well as stunning. There are a total of 9 holes with a par of 37, so we’ll definitely have some fun trying to get the perfect shot! The best record hit in this course was 32 shots. We have seen that course is easier than the Mountain Course, so beginners are advised to have a go at the Lake course first, although both courses are open to every golfer, beginner or experienced.
The Mountain Course
If you came to Tuscany for it’s rolling hills and a challenge, then you’ll most certainly appreciate the 6,351 meters of the Mountain Course at Castelfalfi. Although everyone is welcome to have a go at this course, with the great technicalities of this Championship Course, it has been created to be amongst the trickiest courses in Italy! With a wide range of diverse game strategies and 18 holes, golfers are bound to have a great time as well as a challenge! The par is 72 so this makes a wonderful morning or afternoon game, the record amount of shots is 65, will you beat the record, or will we? We’ll only find out by trying!
The Country Clubhouse
In 2020, the golf club decided to restore and refurbish their old barn and farmhouse which was known as the Poggionero. Towering over the Mountain Course, the old farmhouse has been converted into a bar/restaurant filled with the delicious Tuscan cuisine. The menu changes weekly and is suited to meet every golfer’s needs and wants. Fancy a scrumptious tagliatelle pasta and grilled steak anyone? This space was made for golfers and visitors to relax and reenergize during breaks, before or after a game or for a tasty lunch. The clubhouse was also designed with a terrace to show off the breathtaking panoramic view of the Mountain Course, where you and us can absorb the Tuscan nature, green hills and luminous rays of sun.
Golf academy
Whether you live in Italy or are visiting, golfing lessons are available by Castelfalfi and are tailored by their Pro. The learning area of the Castelfalfi golf club has an area dedicated to Chipping and Pitching, two Putting Greens, as well as a Driving Range with heated and covered stations. Individual or group lessons can be arranged, as well as private sessions for expert golfers. We adore the fact that the Castelfalfi golf club welcomes young golfers too, as they host the best youth club in Tuscany with young golfers aged from 6-18 learning this incredible sport in an exciting and clear way. Other exciting events that happen at Castelfalfi are their yearly golf tournaments, nationally and internationally, where we can really put what we learn to the test, maybe next year we will have a go!
Trackman technology & golf clinics
We had never heard of combining science with the world of golf before discovering about the golf club at Castelfalfi. Amid lessons with Castelfalfi’s Pro, a Doppler radar, the Trackman, is used to measure in real time the flight and speed of the golf ball, the speed and movement of the player, the trajectory and speed of the golf club as well as the angle of attack! As the lesson comes to an end, a report is produced based on your performance and advice is given by the Pro on how you can improve. We find it amazing how technology can be incorporated with so many things - and now golf, this will really help not only us to learn, but to eventually improve our performances.
There’s more!
Other features that we find exciting at the Castelfalfi golf club are their caddy master and pro shop. The caddy master is not only used for transportation but leaving your golf bag and equipment with them means that you’ll find everything squeaky clean afterwards, ensuring that you and I can focus on playing and relaxing! If one doesn’t have equipment or is missing something, not to worry as the pro shop has everything you need as well as items made by reputable brands such as Chervò and Callaway.
Eco-friendly is the way forward!
Not only did the two architects Moroder and Preißmann design the golf club creatively, but also with the awareness of conserving the environment of the golf courses. For example, using eco-friendly maintenance methods such as re-using rainwater for plant irrigation as well as other techniques to be more green. These changes have led the Castelfalfi golf club to be awarded with the GEO CertifiedTM ecolabel. Not only is the Country Clubhouse rich with Tuscan traditions, the restoration was made complying with the principles of green building and conservative restoration. As we are also aiming to make our new agriturismo as green as possible, we find these ideas fantastic!
Awards won by the Castelfalfi Golf Club
